Dr. Gale Lavinder

Dr. Gale Lavinder received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from George Mason University in 1979: a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Old Dominion University in 1982. Her physical therapy career began in a teaching hospital where she gained both acute care and outpatient experience. She was supervisor on an in-patient rehabilitation unit for 6 years before returning to graduate school. In addition to her supervisory role, she served as the center coordinator of clinical education and also coordinated several continuing education courses. During this time she hosted and participated in a 3-week Adult Hemiplegia Certification course.

She completed her Master of Arts degree in Motor Learning (1994) and Doctor of Education in Motor Learning and Adult Higher Education (2007). Her doctoral research focused on Constraint Induced Therapy with Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy, and more recently in the area of Spirituality and Physical Therapy.

Dr. Lavinder has over 25 years of experience in a variety of settings, including pediatrics, acute care, sub-acute care, and home health. . Her clinical area of interest is adult neurology and pediatrics. She is currently on Faculty at New York Medical College in the Physical Therapy Program.

Dr. Lavinder is a member of the APTA and a member of the Education and Geriatric Section of the APTA
